Peer Education Program
Powderhorn Park Pregnancy Prevention Peer Education Program (P6)
What is P6?
P6 is a peer education program. Each week peer educators will be trained to talk to their peers and parents about issues such as pregnancy and STI/HIV prevention, healthy relationships, dating violence and community resources. Peer educators will be expected to discuss the topics they learn with their peers in their community over the course of the program. Peer educators will be compensated for their outreach and have the opportunity to earn up to $200.
Who can join?
Anyone who is12-15 years old, lives in Powderhorn Park neighborhood and has an interest learning and educating others about topics such as healthy relationships, birth control, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, sexual violence, education, career planning, internships and job resources. No experience is necessary, just the desire to learn!
What else do I need to know?
The program accepts 15 youth per session and is held Tuesday evenings from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in Powderhorn Park. Because the program runs during dinner time, a healthy meal is provided. Peer educators must be able to provide their own transportation, but bus passes will be available.
How do I learn more?
The next P6 session will begin September 2008. The days and times will be decided based on participants schedules. Please contact Sasha at 612-821-9795 or sasha@birdsandbees.org to sign up or for more information.
